Murray Anthony H. “Tony” Murray III joined PHMSA in August of 2000. He works out of the Eastern Region Field Office located in West Trenton, NJ. As a member of HMSAT, he is available to help businesses find the resources needed to comply with the HMR and to provide compliance assistance to federal, state, and local governments and the private sector. Tony is a 1976 graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College, earning a BS in Marine Transportation. Upon graduation, he received a commission as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy Reserve and a Third Mate’s license issued by the U.S.
Coast Guard (USCG) to sail as deck office in the U.S. Merchant Marine. He then shipped-out onboard U.S.

After leaving USCG and before coming to PHMSA, Murray spent 2 years with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) as a Marine Accident Investigator in the NTSB Office of Marine Safety.

Clayton joined PHMSA’s Office of Hazardous Materials Safety in November of 2015 in the Southern Region. Prior to joining PHMSA, Clayton was a transportation specialist for the U.S.
